The siege ended when Parliamentarian cannons, including the infamous “Roaring Meg” mortar, breached the castle walls, leading to its surrender.

After the war, the castle was left in ruins to prevent future military use. Today, its well-preserved remains tell a powerful story of medieval and Civil War history.
